Creating Your First Project

Learn how to set up your first project in AI Brand Report and start monitoring your brand in AI answer engines.

Creating a Project

A project represents your brand in AI Brand Report. Each project tracks how AI engines describe your brand, monitors sentiment, and compares you against competitors. All your results are surfaced in the project's Dashboard.

Step 1: Create Your Project

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Navigate to the Projects page from the sidebar
  3. Click New Project
  4. Fill in the required information:
  • Project Name: Your brand or product name (e.g., "Acme Corp")
  • Domain: Your primary website domain (e.g., "acme.com")
  • Synonyms (optional): Alternative names or variations (e.g., "ACME", "Acme Corporation")
  1. Click Save

You'll be taken directly to your project's Dashboard once it's created.

Step 2: Add Competitors

Track how your competitors are positioned in AI responses:

  1. Go to your project and click Competitors in the sidebar
  2. Click Add Competitor
  3. Enter competitor details:
  • Name: Competitor brand name
  • Domain: Their website domain
  • Synonyms (optional): Alternative names

Repeat for each competitor you want to track

Competitors appear in the Competitors — Share of Voice card on your Dashboard.

Step 3: Create Prompts

Prompts are the queries you want to test against AI engines. Think of questions your potential customers might ask.

Manual prompts: 1. Go to Prompts in your project 2. Click New Prompt 3. Enter your question (e.g., "What are the best project management tools?") 4. Click Save

Auto-generated prompts: 1. Click Generate Prompts on the prompts page 2. AI will suggest relevant prompts based on your domain 3. Review and save the prompts you want to keep

Step 4: Run Your First Analysis

  1. From the Prompts page, click Run next to a prompt
  2. Choose Run All to test all AI engines simultaneously
  3. Wait for analysis to complete (usually 10–30 seconds)
  4. Results appear on the individual prompt result page:
  • Presence: Was your brand mentioned?
  • Sentiment: Positive, neutral, or negative?
  • Score: 0–100 visibility score for this prompt
  • Citations: What sources did AI reference? (Perplexity)

Step 5: Check Your Dashboard

Once prompts have been run, your Dashboard populates automatically with:

  • Your AI Visibility Score (large hero number, top-left)
  • Sentiment breakdown (Positive / Neutral / Negative %)
  • Visibility — brand, domain, and synonym detection rates
  • Engine Coverage — which AI engines are returning results
  • Competitors — Share of Voice — your brand vs. tracked competitors
  • Journey Stages & Topics — funnel coverage distribution
  • Priority Actions — guidance on next steps

Best Practices

Choosing Good Prompts

✅ Good prompts:

"What are the top CRM tools for small businesses?"

"How does Acme compare to Competitor X?"

"Is Acme good for enterprise customers?"

"What are the pricing options for project management software?"

❌ Avoid:

Brand-specific queries like "Tell me about Acme" (these don't reflect how real users search)

Overly generic questions that don't relate to your category

Questions with obvious answers that don't trigger competitive responses

Monitoring Frequency

  • Weekly: Run key prompts weekly to catch major changes
  • Monthly: Full prompt library review
  • After major updates: Test AI knowledge after product launches, PR campaigns, or content updates

Using Synonyms

Include common variations of your brand name so we can detect mentions even when AI uses different formatting:

Brand variations (e.g., "IBM", "I.B.M.", "International Business Machines")

Common misspellings - Abbreviations - Former brand names

Understanding Dashboard Results

Sentiment

Positive: AI describes you favourably

Neutral: AI mentions you factually without positive/negative tone

Negative: AI describes you unfavourably or expresses concerns

Visibility

Shows whether and how often your brand appears:

Brand: Did AI mention your brand name?

Domain: Did AI cite your website?

Synonyms: Did AI use alternative names?
